PERSONAL BEST: YOUR LIFE ON THE PAGE with RICHARD GLOVER
This one-day workshop will explore how to draw from your own life to tell non-fiction stories in different forms. Richard Glover, one of Australia's best loved broadcasters, has written 14 books and countless newspaper columns, creating affectionate and moving portraits of daily life. The course will explore the different ways your life can offer up compelling material for writing, and help you turn anecdote into story. We'll discuss choosing a tone – serious, funny, or both? – and maintaining the balance; how to decide what to reveal and what to leave out; finding gold in the humdrum of daily life; along with the tricky ethical questions on how much of others' lives are fair game, and how to decide. We'll also look at the different forms of prose available, and the so-what factor: why should anyone care about my life?
Suitable for: Non-fiction writers interested in using their own lives as material.
Where: Workshops are held in Crows Nest, Sydney - details provided on booking. Please note that access to the venue is via stairs with no lift.
