WRITE THE SPEECH THAT MATTERS
crafting a superb speech
with lucinda holdforth

If you want to lift your profile and make a difference, it’s not enough to have something to say: you must know how to say it.

This one-day workshop with leading speechwriter Lucinda Holdforth explores and explains how to craft the right speech for any occasion. It starts with understanding the basics: why a speech differs from any other form of communication, and a grasp of the three tools of persuasion dating back to classical Greece and Rome (hint: it’s all about logical argument, emotional impact, and speaker credibility).

With the aid of vivid case studies, participants then step through the drafting process: learning how to identify the ‘job’ of their speech, selecting and deploying the most persuasive tactics, and crafting the words that will make their speech true, credible, fresh and persuasive.

Suitable for: Anyone who wants to improve their public speaking skills; writers of any kind wishing to improve their persuasive power.

Location: Crows Nest, Sydney NSW

Bring: A speech-making scenario you can work with on the day – whether it’s to promote a book, present at a conference, or argue your case in the office or in the public square.
